Private Dining:

The Hotel Splendido is the perfect location for your special occasion, whether it is an elegant Cocktail Reception, Wedding Celebration, or a Private Dinner. Listed  below are some recommended private Dining Menus, our private Dining Team are delighted to work with clients to tailor the menu to their exact requirements to make your event at the Hotel Splendido as memorable as possible. The lunch will be served in a Private Room with 6/8 Seat Tables. For a lower number of guests, we shall be pleased to reserve a Unique Table.

Enjoy the very best of fine Italian Cuisine at The Hotel Splendido's La Terrazza Restaurant, where you can enjoy magnificent views of the bay, or dine indoors in elegant splendour.  For more relaxed al fresco dining at The Pool Restaurant where our lunch time salad buffet is legendary. Or, find the best vantage point to enjoy the jetset bustle of Portofino harbour from the terrace of the Chuflay Restaurant at the Splendido Mare.

La Terrazza:

This Open Air Terrace Restaurant, filled with the beautiful fragrance of colourful flowers and plants, offers breathtaking views over Portofino Bay and The Tigullian Gulf. Chef and his team offer the finest Italian and regional specialities, including pasta with basil and locally caught fish. The Indoor Restaurant has a more formal atmosphere with handpainted walls and hardwood floors throughout, offering many fine Italian and regional specialities. It seats a maximum of 120 people in an elegant, soothing setting.

Pool Restaurant:

From Spring to Autumn, The Poolside Restaurant serves alfresco, Buffet Style lunches and snacks, including an array of regional specialities and a wide selection of beverages. Patio furniture makes for a casual setting where you can enjoy superb views and dips in the pool. Open from 10:00 to 19:00.

Cocktail & Piano Bar:

Handpainted walls in cool watercolours with black and white marbled floors create the perfect ambience in which guests can relax and enjoy an aperitif before Dinner, prepared and served by the Head Barman. Guests can also enjoy an after dinner drink along with the stars and celebrities in the Romantic Piano Bar with its cosy chairs and soothing warm colours. Opening hours: 10:00 to 01:00

Pool Bar:

From Spring to Autumn, The Pool Bar serves delicious cocktails and a wide selection of beverages on the patio, or by the pool. A refreshing cocktail is the perfect way to enjoy the magnificent views between dips in the pool. The Pool Bar is open from 10:00 am to 19:00.

Originally a Monastery, the Four Story building was attacked with such frequency in the 16th Century by Saracen Pirates that the monks abandoned it to the sheep that roamed the coastal hills. In the 19th Century, Baron Baratta revived the wreck, converting it into a family summer house. It had been built on an East West axis, following the contour of the hill, so that as well as having views of the sea from all its principal windows, it also had the sun all day. In 1901 Mr. Ruggero Valentini, the pioneer of tourism at Portofino, transformed Villa Baratta into the Grand Hotel Splendid.  Since the beginning the hotel has played host to the most famous and noble families in Europe and the cream of the international jet-set. The Duke of Windsor was the first person to sign the visitors' book at the Hotel Splendido in Portofino.  His name is scrawled next to that of Wallis, his wife. In 1952 they were the first in a long list of illustrious visitors who came to cushion themselves against the uncomfortable realities of life. Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Clark Gable, Ava Gardner, Catherine Deneuve, Liza Minelli and Rex Harrison all stayed at the Splendido.  In the 50's and the 60's, Harrison, who had a Villa on the slopes above the Splendido, transferred la Dolce Vita from Rome to Portofino, where he played it out on the hotel's celebrated terrace, at his villa and in the bars and restaurants of the little port. Some were Harrison's guests, at his villa; the rest occupied most of the Splendido's bedrooms and suites, each of which has its own Balcony or Terrace, overlooking the cove of Portofino and the Gulf. Today the Splendido still has a Patrician Air. It is not a Grand Hotel in the conventional sense, it has none of the sumptuous fantasy of the Ritz and it doesn't pretend to be a setting for elaborate social rituals.  Instead it is Quietly Democratic.  The principal reception Rooms are furnished with old looking glasses, gilt console tables and Persian rug, the Dining Room serves food based on local, even peasant, tradition fresh fish, home made pasta and lots of local aromatic herbs. The gardens run down the slopes beneath The Hotel to the sea, Bushes of lavender and wild Herbs grow thickly under old olive trees and tangles of bougainvillaea obscure the paths and overhang secluded garden benches. In 1985 Orient Express Hotels bought the Hotel and started a pluriennal project of renovation. All Rooms have since been completely redecorated and refurbished.

The Hotel consists of 65 Rooms and Suites, most with a breathtaking sea view.

Standard Rooms:

Tastefully appointed in sober pastel Colours and delicately decorated, the Standard Rooms overlook the gardens. Bathrooms are equipped with a single vanity, Heated Towel Rails, Scales and a fine assortment of Toiletries. Some of the Single Rooms do not afford significant views, though they are well appointed and feature the amenities common to all other Rooms.

Sea View Rooms:

Tastefully appointed in sober pastel Colours and delicately decorated these Sea View Rooms are larger and more comfortable than the standard, they afford a spectacular Sea View. Bathrooms are equipped with a single vanity (some with double vanities), Heated Towel Rails, Scales and a fine Assortment of  Toiletries.

Sea View Rooms with a Balcony:

Our most Spacious Rooms, beautifully decorated in delicate pastel Colours that complement the breathtaking view of the Bay and the glittering Mediterranean below. Some of these Rooms are decorated with Magical Fresco Paintings of Scenes from around Portofino by local artists. A number of these Rooms can accomodate an extra bed.

Superior Junior Suite:

Charming, well furnished and spacious, these Junior Suites offer guaranteed Sea View (except one), most with a large Balcony or Terrace and some with windows. All Bathrooms feature double vanities, separate privies and walk in Showers and always a Bath Tub. Some offer a spacious walk in Wardrobe.

Deluxe Junior Suites:

The decor and colour scheme is in sunny Mediterranean shades, very restful.  King Size Beds, Sofas and Armchairs assure the utmost comfort. Bathrooms are large, well lit and feature exquisite amenities.

Executive Junior Suites:

Exterior view of one of our Executive Junior Suites, set to one side of The Hotel with its own private entrance, affording a high degree of privacy.

Deluxe Suite:

When dusk falls and sky fades into sea.  Experience a private moment of purest romance. Some Suites offer Two Terraces with breathtaking Sea Views, others have Balconies or Terraces.

Exclusive Suites:

Exclusive Suites enjoy very large Bathrooms with separate Shower Cubicles, Bath Tub, and beauifully furnished double vanity basins and armoires. A beautiful selection of Toileteries, the soft towels and dressing gowns make these Bathrooms a haven of Comforts.

Presidential Suite:

From March 2004 the newly restructured and refurbished Presidential Suite will offer three magnificent spacious terraces overlooking Portofino’s cove and Tigullio. Charming, tastefully appointed in delicate pastel colours that will complement the breathtaking view of the Bay. The Presidential Suite will have very large Bathroom,  well appointed with a Bath Tub, Separate Shower Cubicle, Double vanities and armoires. Equipped with king size or Twin Beds, All Comforts, Fax and Computer. Connections, it ahs a separate Living Room. It may be connected to a Junior Suite Executive to make a magnificent Two Bedroom Suite.

Swimming Pool:

Relax in our Oval Shaped, Heated, Saltwater Swimming Pool amidst our lush gardens and enjoying spectacular views of the sea. Or unwind on a sun bed, order a long drink and soak in the view.

Coastline:

The rugged coastline of Liguria is dramatic and magnificent.  Guests can enjoy the pleasure of bathing in the sea at Paraggi, a short walk from the hotel. Paraggi cannot be defined as a Village it is a cluster of Private Villas which surround the little sandy bay, caressed by a sea which varies in colour from cobalt blue to emerald green. The bay is bounded on one side by a Private Castle and on the other by Punta Cajega. A Small Hotel and some Restaurants are the unique features of this exclusive locality. Sea bathing here is absolutely glorious.

Tennis:

Play tennis on the all weather Tennis Court, set in the hillside to one side of The Hotel, surrounded by lush gardens. The Tennis Court is available from 08:00 to 20:00.

Golf:

Located just a 20 minutes drive from Hotel Splendido is the famous Golf Club of Rapallo, one of the oldest courses in Italy, that has welcomed many famous golfers, both amateur and professional. Opened in 1930 the Duke of Windsor first played golf here in 1938 during one of his many visits to the Hotel Splendido. This Par 70, 5,639 metre course will provide a challenge to all levels of golfers, amidst a magical setting Combining Woodland, Hills and Rivers. Closed Tuesdays. Keen golfers should take advantage of the Golf in Portofino package.

Gymnasium:

The Hotel offers a gymnasium equipped with a variety of exercise machines and equipment.  It has a hardwood floor throughout and a glass wall which affords remarkable views of the sea while you exercise. Opening hours are from 08:00 to 20:00.

Transfers:

Genoa is connected to major European cities through Cristoforo Colombo International Airport and our concierge can arrange any kind of flight ticketing within Italy, Europe and for International Destinations. We can also provide full details of all train and plane connections. Private cars and drivers are available for transfers anywhere in Italy and abroad.

Health:

Whether you need a Doctor or Dentist or want to indulge in a healthy massage or general body care, our concierge's assistance is immediate.

Beauty and Babysitting:

The new Health & Wellness Centre, located on the hotel premises, provides all kinds of treatments throughout the day, seven days a week. Hair stylist, manicure, pedicure, sauna, massage, facial treatments are available and can be booked for as long as necessary.

Sports:

The Spectacular Pool surrounded by lush gardens with view of the bay and the Tennis Court, are located on the premises, as well as a small Gymnasium equipped with weights, a walking track and a bicycle. Golf and Horse Riding at nearby Rapallo.
