Rome Eternal City…a rich and glorious past
that you can breath in all the city. An active and lively present that
describes a contemporary city. A future visible from the image of city
in full evolution. Rome is all this, a complete
city that can fascinate and give satisfaction to anyone who has a walk
along its streets. Everyone will find his source of inspiration or his
reason to stay in Rome.
Different symbols are associated to the city of Rome:
The Colosseum, The Capitoline Wolf, the acronym SPQR (Senatus Populus
Que Romanus), that refers to the union between the Senate and the
population in the old age.
In the past no one of these symbols was used to represent the city but
there was the Goddess of Rome.
Rome has different appellations: L’URBE (latin for
city), CAPUT MUNDI (latin for World’s capital
city), CITTA’ ETERNA (Eternal city).
The colours of the city are yellow ochre and red crimsom.
Some proverbs that concern Rome:
- "In Rome behave as Romans"
- "All streets lead to Rome"
- "Who goes to Rome becomes a little bit Roman"
Markets of Trajan and Trajan's Forum
The markets, with their tabernae and bargaining rooms, are the ingenious building complex expecially designed to support the ground of the Quirinal Hill, dug out for the construction of the Imperial Forums, where the centre of public life had shifted.
Palatine
A walk of incomparable beauty along the most ancient memories of Rome: the Domus Augustana, residence of the emperors, and other private houses.
Roman Forum
The Roman Forum was the political, economic, and religious centre of ancient Rome, the site of temples, tribunals and other buildings used for public and private business.
Colosseum (Amphitheater of Flavius)
The most important monument of ancient Rome, bloody battles between gladiators and against ferocious animals were once held. Divided into four levels of seats, it could hold at least fifty thousand spectators.
Ancient Ostia Escavations (outside Rome)
Impressive remains of the Roman settlement which used to be the military garrison for the defense of the river entrance.
